The Island of Zakynthos has one of Greece’s most beautiful beaches. Navagio beach is also known as “Shipwreck Beach”, offering you a stunning view of blue waters that’s are sure to take your breath away. Navagio beach was originally called “Agios Georgios” until the “Panagiotis” ship ran aground in the waters around Zakynthos Island. The captain of the “Panagiotis” lost control of the ship due to storms and bad visibility. The ship was rumoured to have been smuggling cigarettes and alcohol to the this beautiful Ionian island.

Regardless of what the ship was actually doing in the area, its wreck has certainly brought lots of attention to Navagio beach . Lots of tourists from all over the world come to the island to see this sand-sunken ship. This beach does of course also offer those magnificent views seen from above the beach.
